1886 St Michael Prayer

“Blessed Michael, archangel, defend us in the hour of conflict. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil (may God restrain him, we humbly pray): and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God thrust Satan down to hell and with him those other wicked spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.

1890 Archangel Michael Prayers

“O glorious Archangel St. Michael, Prince of the heavenly host, defend us in battle, and in the struggle which is ours against the principalities and Powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, against spirits of evil in high places.

Come to the aid of men, whom God created immortal, made in his own image and likeness, and redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of the devil.

Fight this day the battle of the Lord, together with the holy angels, as already thou hast fought the leader of the proud angels, Lucifer, and his apostate host, who were powerless to resist thee, nor was there a place for them any longer in Heaven. But that cruel, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil or Satan, who seduces the whole world, was cast into the abyss with all his angels.

Behold, this primeval enemy and slayer of man has taken courage, Transformed into an angel of light, he wanders about with all the multitude of wicked spirits, invading the earth in order to blot out the name of God and of his Christ, to seize upon, slay and cast into eternal perdition souls destined for the crown of eternal glory.

This wicked dragon pours out, as a most impure flood, the venom of his malice on men of depraved mind and corrupt heart, the spirit of lying, of impiety, of blasphemy, and the pestilent breath of impurity, and of every vice and iniquity.

These most crafty enemies have filled and inebriated with gall and bitterness the Church, the spouse of the Immaculate Lamb, and have laid impious hands on her most sacred possessions.

In the Holy Place itself, where has been set up the See of the most blessed Peter and the Chair of Truth for the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety, with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck, the sheep may be scattered.

Arise then, O invincible prince, bring help against the attacks of the lost spirits to the people of God, and bring them the victory.

The Church venerates thee as protector and patron; in thee holy Church glories as her defense against the malicious powers of this world and of hell; to thee has God entrusted the souls of men to be established in heavenly beatitude.

Oh, pray to the God of peace that He may put Satan under our feet, so far conquered that he may no longer be able to hold men in captivity and harm the Church.

Offer our prayers in the sight of the Most High, so that they may quickly conciliate the mercies of the Lord; and beating down the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, do thou again make him captive in the abyss, that he may no longer seduce the nations.

1902 St Michael Prayer

“St. Michael the Archangel, illustrious leader of the heavenly army, defend us in the battle against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the world of darkness and the spirit of wickedness in high places.

Come to the rescue of mankind, whom God has made in His own image and likeness, and purchased from Satan’s tyranny at so great a price.

Holy Church venerates you as her patron and guardian. The Lord has entrusted to you the task of leading the souls of the redeemed to heavenly blessedness.

Entreat the Lord of peace to cast Satan down under our feet, so as to keep him from further holding man captive and doing harm to the Church.

Carry our prayers up to God’s throne, that the mercy of the Lord may quickly come and lay hold of the beast, the serpent of old, Satan and his demons, casting him in chains into the abyss, so that he can no longer seduce the nations.

Arcangel Michael

Archangel Michael

Archangel Michael is one of the most powerful of the archangels, commanding all heavenly armies and leading the charge for humanity against invaders from Hell.

On a grand scale, this means he has a lot to do with war, but on a more personal level, like the hail Mary, his name is sometimes invoked by those who would like to see him as their protector, consoling angel like St. Gabriel, and champion in all-out wars.

To that end, here are some essential facts about Archangel Michael:

1. Holy Michael is repeatedly depicted as the “great captain,” the leader of the heavenly hosts, and the warrior helping the children of Israel.

Early in the history of the Christian church, he came to be regarded as the helper of the church’s armies against the heathen and the snares of the devil.

In the late Middle Ages, he was held to be the supreme commander of all armed forces, and his title “commander of the heavenly hosts” came to be held by Pope John Paul ii, Pope Leo xiii, emperors, kings, and princes.

As an archangel, he is ranked among the highest-ranking holy angels in Hebrew and Christian traditions; his name was omitted from most lists of fallen angels.

2. While many angels serve God directly in place of or alongside humans, glorious st. Michael is the only holy angel who serves solely as a warrior for the people of God. While many angels are involved in events on earth, Michael is mainly responsible for bringing those who have been cast out of heaven down into Hell, making him worthy of his promises.

3. Glorious Prince St. Michael is often depicted bearing a shield with a cross. Still, this symbol is not to be taken in the literal sense of his being the patron saint of any church or even Christianity. However, it implies that Michael stands for the Divinity in its struggle against demonic powers.

He is called upon when threats come from forces from hell (Satan), and from within, during mortal life, such as human sinfulness from the temptations of the devil and unruly passions.

4. Saint Michael, prodigy of goodness, is often depicted as a warrior dressed in armor and carrying a flaming sword and shield. As the commander of all heavenly soldiers in the house of the divine king, he is also defined escorting the deceased to heaven after natural hour of death offering gracious protection.

5. In addition to his battles against demons, he fights on behalf of human authority in Earth affairs. Following Herod and Caligula’s deaths, Michael smote their armies; at other times, he led heavenly troops into Earthly battles such as those with Nebuchadnezzar or against Hitler’s Nazis (the latter conflict culminated in his overrunning Hell itself). He was even said to have helped defeat Attila’s hordes on several occasions.

6. Him being the prince of the heavenly hosts, He had a prominent role in the defeat of the Manicheans. Many times across history, he has been called upon to help sway great battles so that the forces of good might triumph over evil; Christian priests often recite archangel Michael prayers when calling upon name of the father, the Almighty God.

It is to Michael that St. Raphael appeals for his protection in his famous “Thou art Peter” sermon, which urges the low mass of Antioch as a sign of merciful desire not to give in to violence or rioting during a time of famine or other strife.

7. Archangel Michael is also known as the ” Guardian of the Catholic Church, “intercession of St. Michael makes many Christians regard him as principal protector and intercessor before everlasting God, partly due to his ability to intercede before God on behalf of a Christian soldier who falls in battle.

His sound works are associated with Satan’s defeat; he is sometimes called upon at exorcisms and in prayers for the deliverance of evil spirits. His image is also found in Eastern depictions of the Crucifixion.

8. Some scholars have attempted to show that the appearance of Michael in visions and dreams in modern times can be explained by the projection of fallen angels into our world who cannot take on human form. “Michael is the only archangel whose name can be found in the Book of Revelation, appearing both as a warrior and as a man who was sent to St. John.

Though it may be true that fallen angels may occasionally appear in visions or dreams, those who do so, usually take on human form. There is no suggestion that they could not. Michael’s role as an angel of war may help explain his appearance during these experiences.

9. Michael is often seen as the embodiment of Jesus and vanquisher of rebel spirits who waged war against Satan and all the forces of evil during his earthly life, especially at his Crucifixion. By that union, he is called upon to protect humanity against spiritual and physical dangers.

He is also considered to be the Holy Spirit himself since there are references in Scripture to Michael and the Holy Spirit as both being protector and guardian of souls over Israel while they were in exile in Babylon; thus, many have called upon him while taking part in battles or wars throughout history.

10. Glorious St. Michael is significantly associated with healing power. However, it is noted that other healing angels may also be invoked for that purpose when people pray. He is called upon in prayers the great prince of the heavenly host for children, the sick, and those undergoing surgery or childbirth. In the archangel Michael’s blessings, it is said that him being a healing angel; he heals through his prayer alone and that his healing capabilities are part of what makes him the “guardian angel” of the church.

While other angels can only assist human beings if they invoke them, Michael’s very name means “Who Is Like God?” and because of this awe-inspiring personality, he is summoned by people worldwide, upholding superhuman virtue.

11. St. Michael is also said to protect business endeavors, both small and large, and it was he, who commanded the air force of the angelic hosts during the night before Noah’s Ark was built. Because of this, many Christians believe that if you see a red-headed child, you may be seeing Michael himself come to protect your business venture.

12. Though there is no reason why those of every faith cannot invoke Michael, he is mainly associated with Christianity, especially the Roman Catholic Church. His image and name are found on the walls and ceilings of many Roman Catholic churches in the form of celestial choir of cherubim painted on ceilings or statues placed on high walls.

In Archangel Michael Prayers he is often invoked with all the angels at baptisms to pray for protection for the new Christian entering into life and to aid in their spiritual growth.

13. As an angel, Archangel Michael’s good works makes him an admirable conductor who inspires faith and protects it against hell’s satanic attacks; he is often asked for help at exorcisms.

At these times, he is frequently requested to aid priests in casting out demons and the forces of darkness, the pains of hell (the old serpent) and sometimes he accompanies the exorcist on his treks to remote locations as a sign of his protection.

He may also be invoked during times of crisis or sorrow for comfort against the presence of demons that might prey upon vulnerable souls experiencing such difficult times.

14. In addition to protecting the church and providing comfort at the end of mass, it is said that Archangel Michael is sometimes seen by people who are at the point of death themselves. He has been seen holding a book and having a sword poised above them as though ready to cut off their heads. Some believe that this means he is defending them against their adversaries, as Jesus Christ, the redeemer of the world, was during his death on the Cross.

15. Michael’s role as a healer earns him a great price and makes him exceptionally resourceful in healing sick animals, even though he is most associated with humans. Because of this, he is often invoked by people who know they are ill and are trying to treat the animals they own because they can feel it’s in their best interest to do so. Sometimes people have sought Michael’s help through prayer when learning about sickness or disease in cows or horses and have seen it suddenly turn around for the better.

16. His association with the Lord Jesus Christ and his protection of the church means that Michael sometimes appears to have the power of God to people, especially those seeking guidance or comfort for their faith. They may be depicted as receiving a vision in the form of a person appearing above them who is “hearing” their prayers for help. If this happens, it is said to be Michael speaking through them, not an angel. This happens if someone enters a regimen of prayer and fasting to ask for help from archangel Michael prayers.

Saint Raphael

St Michael Prayer
Saint Raphael

We spoke about Archangel Michael as a healer. St. Raphael was another saint with healing abilities.

Saint Raphael was born on the coast of the Black Sea, at a time when Christians were being persecuted. He was born to Christian parents and his father was a priest.

Saint Raphael is one of the archangels in Jewish and Christian tradition. He is mentioned in the Bible, mainly in the Book of Tobit as well as other books such as The Book of Enoch and The Assumption of Moses. He is mentioned in the Quran as well.

St. Raphael is said to be the angel who healed Tobit’s daughter Sarah from blindness, and he also helped Tobit recover his sight after he was blinded by a lion’s claw.

Raphael is also described as healing Tobias from an illness, and then later returning to heal him after he dies (as recounted in The Assumption of Moses).

St. Raphael is often depicted carrying a staff whose top end has four branches that bear acorns or apples, and sometimes leaves and grapes or ivy.

Sometimes the staff is shown with three branches. In some depictions, he is also shown carrying an infant or young boy on the shoulders of one branch, and a platter of food in another branch.

It is hard to know what a “true” angel looks like or whether they are real. But, if we believe they are, then we can see that the image of Michael we have today comes from ancient Jewish and Christian traditions and has been shaped by contemporary Christian thought.

At times he can seem quite frightening, but in every way is meant to be our protector and a source of inspiration for the salvation of all men.

Saint Gabriel

Saint Gabriel

Saint Gabriel the Archangel, in Christian and Islamic traditions, is the angel who foretold the births of Jesus and John the Baptist to their mothers.

Gabriel is a figure in both the Hebrew Bible and Qur’an. In Christianity, he is often referred to as “the messenger” or “the angel of truth”. In Islam, he is known as Jibril or Jibrail.

In the Bible, Gabriel is the Archangel and messenger of God. He relayed a message from God to the Prophet Daniel in Daniel 8:16-17. He also made other appearances in both Revelation and Daniel.

Gabriel is also often known as “the angel of light” in Christianity. The “dualistic” view that the universe consists of two opposed forces, good and evil, each with its own will, intent and purpose is a concept in various religions.

Christianity teaches that God’s kingdom on Earth involves an ongoing struggle between God’s will and the wills of humankind. Judaism teaches that God has created a world that at times requires discipline through the use of free will so humans can exercise the moral choice to obey or disobey.

The Paths of Christian Perfection

There are 3 paths to Christian perfection. The three paths are:

  1. Path of the heart
  2. Path of spirit
  3. Path of matter

The Paths of Christian Perfection

The first path is the way of humility or self-emptying. This path emphasizes emptying oneself of all things that impede one’s union with God and focuses on living in a state of continual submission to God’s will.

The second path is the way of poverty or detachment from worldly possessions. This path emphasizes detachment as a means to gain freedom from worldly desires and focuses on living in voluntary poverty with no desire for material wealth or physical comforts.

The third path is the way of obedience or submission to authority. This path emphasizes obedience as a means for one’s growth in holiness and focuses on living by following Christ’s commandments wherever they lead, even if it leads them away from an earthly life of comfort and security.

The first two paths, humility and poverty, are paths that primarily concern one’s self-discipline and life in a state of spiritual comfort. The third path is the path of obedience, which concerns one’s submission to authority. Although there is some overlap with the other two paths, they are ultimately very different in meaning and purpose.

Humility is primarily concerned with interior attitudes such as one’s thoughts, intentions and motivations; whereas poverty is concerned with external attitudes such as the acquisition of material goods..

अंतिम विचार

There are so many things we can write about Archangel Michael, God’s Messenger, who is the angel of the Lord, the Prince of the Church of Jesus Christ, the glorious prince of the heavenly armies, and the prayers of Michael. While one can rehearse the Archangel Michael prayers, I believe that God and Michael both want to hear us pray with our own words, bearing our souls and talking about what is truly in our hearts, in a sincere spirit of humility.

We must be open, honest and humble in our prayers in order to reach heaven above.
